This is lowkey stressful.
You’re not exactly sure what changed, but lately you’d rather escape to your room so you can avoid family, friends, everything.
Every day there’s more drama, another salty friend, never-ending school work, and your family who doesn’t get it.
The struggle is real.
It’s hard trying to figure out where you fit in. Everybody is so extra: obsessing about Snap streaks, perfecting TikTok posts, and constantly on YouTube. Nobody is real.
If only it were as simple as putting a filter over feeling sad, anxious, and overwhelmed.
You just want someone to talk to. Someone who gets you.
Time for a mental health glow up
Being a teen doesn’t have to feel mid. Stress, anxiety, feeling down, and complicated relationships don’t have to hold you back. You can have the great life you want.
Welcome to Red Chair Psychology Inc.!
We’re a specialized practice of doctoral-level clinical psychologists in West Bedford, Nova Scotia.
We help teens (and tweens) who are struggling learn how to take control of their anxiety, feel calmer and happier, and be true to themselves.
The Tea.
Many teens start feeling better after about 5 sessions. And many won’t need to keep coming to therapy after about 12 sessions.
In our sessions, you’ll have a safe space to be yourself.
We’ll have time to chat to understand what’s going on.
We might write or draw important information on a whiteboard (no judging our messy printing!).
And to make sure you start feeling better, we’ll keep track of how you’re doing, and we’ll use magic science and skills to help you feel better.
Yup. Skills.
We’ll practice skills together. Practising skills sound sus? It works.
And I’m pretty sure you want something that works. Often we use skills based on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. (Nope - you don’t need to know what any of that is.)
Teens Want to Know:
1. Is information private, or do you share with parents?
Yes and yes. Whaaaaat? Sharing info partly depends on how much you want to share. There are some things we can’t keep private (like abuse or assaults), but you might be surprised with how much we can keep confidential. The best way to know for sure is for us to chat about it openly. This is always a conversation we have with teens. So there won’t be any surprises before we dive in.
2. How involved are my parents?
Most of our time will be spent with you. However, we usually include parents so they can be confident that our time together is well-spent and working. This also helps your folks support you. Some teens want parents more, or less, involved. Often, we save time each session (or every so often) to loop-in parents, other times we book separate parent sessions. We’ll find the right balance for you. If we meet with your parents, you’ll know what information is shared (and not shared) with them - no guess work.
