Here’s a bit about me, to help you figure out if we could be an ideal match!

I’m Dr. Rebecca Tucker! I’m a candidate register clinical psychologist (fancy schmancy way of saying: I completed my Ph.D. and all of my years, and years, and yearrrrrs of clinical training, and now I’m wrapping up my last year of supervised practise).

Dr. Rebecca Tucker at Red Chair Psychology

I became a Ph.D.-level clinical psychologist so that I can really, truly ‘get’ what’s going on when I work with folks.

One of my favourite things is seeing things click, when people have their “ah-ha!” moments.

To get to these eureka moments, we’ll use a science-y approach to help you make whatever changes are important to you.

I’m known for being easy to talk to, accepting, and understanding. You’ll notice my laid-back style and you’ll feel comfortable being yourself during our sessions.

Whether it’s your first time in therapy, or you’ve been trying to find the right person for you, you’ll find that we can tackle even the toughest topics openly.

When I’m not camped out in a red chair witnessing the “ah-ha!s”, you can find me knitting up a storm, boxing, or being drawn magnetically toward the ocean – sometimes even kayaking or hiking coastal paths with my son.

If you’re looking for custom-prepared sessions (no cookie-cutter appointments!) and want someone who allows you to show up as you are - no judgments: you’ve come to the right place. Therapy doesn’t have to be intimidating. Together, we’ll discover your strengths - no matter your reason for coming to therapy.

Ready for your “ah-ha!” moment?

Credentials

I hold a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Dalhousie University’s Department of Psychology & Neuroscience and completed my residency at NSH in Kentville, Nova Scotia. Jargon, jargon, jargon: I have extensive training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. I like to integrate aspects from these types of therapy so that each session will be most helpful for you.

When I’m not working directly with my clients, I supervise clinical psychology Ph.D. students’ therapeutic and assessment skills at the Centre for Psychological Health. For the last couple of years, I’ve also been an undergrad psychology instructor at Dalhousie University, teaching adult psychopathology, child psychopathology, and research methods. I also helped create the original version of Tranquility Online (which is now a major online program that helps treat mental health conditions in Canada). Yup: geek credit.
